We each have unique genetic makeup that influences our risk of disease and is influenced by our diet, supplements, and lifestyle.

Dr. Maria Zangara is an expert in the cutting-edge field of individualizing treatment plans based on your unique genetic make-up using a database that can show how your genes are up-regulated or down-regulated by various natural substances and can use this personalized information to help you optimize health throughout your lifetime.

Genetic testing and analysis is the future of personalized medicine and can help to prevent and reverse disease risk-factors

Nutrigenetics

Nutrigenetics is the scientific study of the interaction of nutrition and genes, especially with regard to the prevention or treatment of disease.

Nutrigenomics

Nutrigenomics is a branch of nutritional genomics and is the study of the effects of foods and food constituents on gene expression. This means that nutrigenomics is research focusing on identifying and understanding molecular-level interaction between nutrients and other dietary bioactives with the genome.

Genetics and Personalized Healthcare

Dr. Maria Zangara uses Opus23 Pro, a software program that interprets raw genomic data from 23andMe, a company that performs genomic analysis. It takes your genomic information and brings it to life. Once Dr. Zangara receives your 23 and me genomic report, she will take your raw data from 23andMe and run it through Opus23.

She will then translate it into clinically applicable information that she can use to find relevant treatment for problems you are experiencing and administer therapeutic action or as preventative action, which is what we call precision personalized healthcare.

How Does it Work?

The picture below shows that there are a few problems with a gene called Clock and a gene called PER1. The orange color means there are more SNPs. This gene is a member of the Period family of genes and is expressed in the primary circadian pacemaker in the mammalian brain. Genes in this family encode components of the circadian rhythms of locomotor activity, metabolism, and behavior. This is an example of information that is assessed to determine how to best optimise its function, using supplements, specific foods, mind-body therapies, exercise, and proper sleep habits

Patients receive a personalized printout of their genetic analysis that will consist of:

    • General blood type information (ABO, Secretor, A1/A2, Kell and Duffy).
    • Genetic exploration of your DNA to analyze mutations.
    • Susceptibility analysis of diseases.

    • Prevention analysis of diseases.
    • Analysis of side effects or benefits to drugs.
    • Basic food analysis (beneficial and problematic foods list).

    • Environmental analysis which could be  causative factors of diseases
    • Basic genetics overview
    • List of your high yield genetic mutations
    • Supplement protocol based on your genetic information

How to Prepare for your Opus23 Consult

    1. Book an appointment for an Opus23 consult with Dr. Zangara 12 weeks in advance.
